If you were asked why waste time meditating daily?

One of your answers, comes from the Buddha’s teaching of the 2 arrows. Mindfulness meditation trains the mind to eventually comprehend the “reality of living”, to the extend that we are better equipped to deal with daily unavoidable events with calmer demeanor.  Following are few resources for you, on this Sunday, to explore and enjoy.

During the last Thursday’s NW SMG meeting, we were studying Bhikkhu Bodhi’s book- “In the Buddha's Words: An Anthology of Discourses from the Pali Canon”, we came across the Buddha’s teaching of the 2 arrows. There is this saying common nowadays, “Pain is unavoidable, Suffering is optional”.  In the Sallatha Sutta: The Arrow translated from the Pali by Thanissaro Bhikkhu, you get the understand of the meaning behind of this popular saying.

How then, you might ask, mindfulness meditation can make a difference for me?  Following youtube video explains it in 7 minutes, the how.  And make sure you watch the video all  the way to the end, in order to try out a 2 second fun test.

And for those who are more scientifically inclined, you will enjoy this 7 minute video “Pain is Not Suffering”, showing research results in attesting the benefits of meditation.

Now you know and hope that you are encouraged and inspired.  Happy practicing.
